Aeromexico is Mexico’s national flag carrier and one of Latin America’s most recognized airlines, connecting passengers across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. In recent years, the airline has undergone a period of rapid growth, expanding routes, modernizing its fleet, and investing heavily in digital channels to support a growing international customer base.  

As Aeromexico entered new markets, most notably South Korea, the need for accurate and well-managed multilingual content became increasingly visible. International customers relied on translated content across the website, mobile app, and booking platforms, while internal teams—without a dedicated localization function—were stretched managing content in multiple languages. Much of the English copy was written by non‑native speakers and required refinement, while Asian‑market languages demanded a more structured, scalable workflow.

What began as a focused localization project quickly evolved into a long‑term collaboration—helping Aeromexico accelerate updates, improve customer‑facing content, and reduce the internal burden of managing global localization. 

The Evolving Needs of Aeromexico

The first inflection point came in late 2024 when Aeromexico prepared to launch its ecommerce storefront for South Korea. To do this properly, the airline needed its entire website localized into Korean. The scale was significant—around 250,000 words—but the timeline was shorter. Their previous process relied on manual extraction from Drupal and manual reinsertion of translated text, which slowed down releases and created room for error. 

As the Korean project progressed, new needs emerged. The mobile app—the primary customer touchpoint—was being rebuilt, and the English UI required review to ensure clarity and consistency. Aeromexico’s internal teams produced English content, but as non-native speakers, they wanted support polishing the language for international users. 

Other challenges surfaced along the way. Some English files still contained Spanish phrases from internal drafting. Various teams inside Aeromexico requested localization support, but without consistent internal processes. Clearly Local stepped in to help navigate these complexities, serving not just as a translation provider but as an external localization function the airline could rely on.

After seeing the reliability of the Korean localization work, Aeromexico requested content review for its mobile app platform. Clearly Local audited and polished the English UI copy of Aeromexico’s new app—much of it drafted by non-native speakers—to ensure natural, consistent language for international users.

Spanish-to-Korean translation support

Some Aeromexico content originated in Spanish rather than English. Clearly Local stepped in to manage Spanish-to-Korean translation as well, ensuring alignment across languages.

Style guide development and linguistic resource

To help Aeromexico establish long-term consistency, Clearly Local created an English style guide, along with terminology resources reviewed and approved by Aeromexico’s UX writing team.
